What our advice covers

The process, step by step

The services that we provide relate to 5 distinct steps involved in a person’s entry to permanent aged care. Select a step to see what’s involved.

Step 1 of 5

Getting ready to enter care

  • Arrange to have an ACAT assessment of your need to enter permanent aged care
  • Find accommodation at an Aged Care facility that meets your needs
  • Get your information together to complete the Income & Assets form SA 457
  • Review or prepare your Will and Enduring Power Of Attorney documents

Step 2 of 5

Entry to permanent aged care

  • Present us with your draft SA 457 form &/or our Essential Fact Find for evaluation
  • We model up to 5 Financial Strategy options for you to consider and assess your potential Means Tested Fee
  • We share our advice with you and suggest further ‘tweaking’ to reduce costs where possible

Step 3 of 5

Actions to improve the financial situation

  • We now consider how to best finance the upfront and ongoing fees to ensure that what you have can cover what you need. Should the RAD be paid in full or part plus a DAP etc.?
  • Is it best to retain, rent or sell the family home: a key question that is of paramount importance from many perspectives must be addressed
  • We usually recommend that a funeral bond be put in place if not already
  • Other sophisticated financial products may be suggested to improve your position
  • An updated SA 457 is often created from this process

Step 4 of 5

Completing the deal with the aged care facility

  • You have 28 days from the date of permanent entry to finalise a deal and settle how you are going to cover all of the costs
  • At this point of entry we now turn our attention to making sure that residual assets are properly and complimentarily invested going forward

Step 5 of 5

Ongoing review of fees and investments

  • We assist further as your financial circumstances change and provide a service to ensure that your MTF is at an optimal minimum
  • We review your general asset position and the ongoing suitability of your investments and their performance

The best time to talk to us is right now

If a member of your family is likely to need permanent aged care in the next 6 months, seek advice now. Many things can be done to minimise the financial impact ahead of time.

Backed by a firm with a history dating back to 1973

Many of our clients are a great distance from where we are based and that is never a problem: the rules for entry to permanent aged care apply exactly the same all over Australia, and we can meet by phone, Zoom or Microsoft Teams, email, ‘snail mail’ and even in person.
